In many sources, elatusaatomite is described as a hydrated aluminosilicate with a layered sheet structure. Proposed chemical representations vary, with a common speculative form written as Al2Si4O11(OH)2·nH2O to reflect a hydrated silicate with two-dimensional layers. Crystallography is uncertain in these discussions, with proposed monoclinic or hexagonal polytypes. Physical properties are likewise speculative, but sources often assign a pale green to colorless appearance, a vitreous to pearly luster, and a Mohs hardness around 4 to 5.
