Elastombase

Elastombase is a term sometimes used to describe a foundational or base material that possesses elastomeric properties. Elastomers are polymers that exhibit viscoelasticity, meaning they can be stretched significantly and return to their original shape upon removal of the stress. Therefore, an elastombase refers to the primary component or matrix of an elastomeric material, upon which other properties or functionalities might be built.

This base material provides the inherent elasticity. Examples of common elastomeric base materials include natural rubber, synthetic rubbers like styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR), polybutadiene rubber (BR), and various thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs). In many applications, the elastombase is modified with additives such as fillers, vulcanizing agents, plasticizers, and antioxidants to enhance its mechanical strength, durability, processing characteristics, and resistance to environmental factors.

The term "elastombase" is not a strictly defined scientific or industrial term but rather a descriptive one. It is useful when discussing composite materials or formulations where the elastomeric nature originates from a specific base polymer.
