Elasticband

Elasticband, commonly known as a rubber band, is a looped, stretchable length of elastic material designed to return to its original shape after being stretched. Elasticbands vary in size, thickness, and material and can be circular loops used to bind items or flat strips used in crafts and hair care. They are used in offices, homes, and schools to secure bundles or fasten objects temporarily, and they are also employed as components in fitness and rehabilitation equipment.

Most elasticbands are made from natural rubber latex or synthetic elastomers such as polyisoprene or styrene-butadiene rubber. They may be reinforced or coated to resist moisture. Natural rubber bands are typically made by extruding rubber into a loop and then vulcanizing to improve elasticity and durability. The performance of a band depends on its width, thickness, and the rubber formulation.

Common uses include binding papers, securing packets, and holding components together. In beauty and crafts, small bands are used as hair ties; in sports and therapy, resistance bands—longer, thicker or flat—provide adjustable resistance for exercises and rehabilitation.

Safety and environmental considerations: some people are allergic to latex; many bands are synthetic alternatives. Worn or damaged bands can snap unexpectedly and cause injury. Disposal and recycling options vary; some bands are recyclable or biodegradable, depending on material.
