Ekososialists

Ekososialismi is a political ideology that combines socialist principles with ecological concerns. It posits that the fundamental causes of environmental degradation stem from the capitalist system's drive for profit and perpetual growth. Ekososialists argue that private ownership of the means of production and the commodification of nature lead to unsustainable exploitation of resources and pollution. They believe that a transition to a socialist economy, characterized by social ownership and democratic control of production, is necessary to address the ecological crisis.

Key tenets of ekososialism include the prioritization of ecological sustainability over economic growth, the reduction of consumption, and the development of decentralized, ecologically sound production methods. Ekososialists often advocate for policies such as renewable energy transitions, sustainable agriculture, public transportation, and the protection of biodiversity. They see the integration of ecological considerations into all aspects of economic and social planning as crucial.

While broadly agreeing on the need to overcome capitalism for ecological reasons, different strands of ekososialism exist. Some focus more on technological solutions within a planned economy, while others emphasize degrowth, community-based initiatives, and a more radical critique of industrial society. The movement draws inspiration from various sources, including classical Marxism, anarchism, and environmental activism.
