Eingliederungsmaßnahmen

Eingliederungsmaßnahmen are measures within the German social protection system designed to help unemployed people or job-seekers reintegrate into the labor market. They form part of the broader category “Leistungen zur Eingliederung in Arbeit” and are supported by the Federal Employment Agency (Bundesagentur für Arbeit) in cooperation with job centers and sometimes private providers. The aim is to increase employability and reduce long-term unemployment by improving qualifications, skills, and practical work experience.

Typical forms of Eingliederungsmaßnahmen include vocational training and further education, Umschulung ( retraining for a different occupation), and targeted qualification courses. They also encompass practical components such as internships or work placements linked to training, as well as coaching, career guidance, and job-search support. In several cases, measures may include language training or integration-related components if these improve employability.

Financing and incentives: the Federal Employment Agency can subsidize employers through Eingliederungszuschuss (EGZ) to offset part of the wage costs and encourage the hiring of job-seekers. Depending on the program, additional costs for participation, travel, or training materials may be covered as part of the measure.

Access and planning: eligibility and the specific design of a measure are determined through a needs-based assessment, in coordination with the participant and the BA or job center. Measures are individualized and aligned with the participant’s skills and the local labor market, with success measured by subsequent employment or sustainable reintegration.
