Eileanan
Eileanan is a Scottish Gaelic term meaning islands, the plural of eilean (island). In place names, it is commonly used to refer to archipelagos or groups of islands and features prominently in Gaelic denominations for western Scottish islands. The best known use is Na h-Eileanan Siar, the Scottish Gaelic name for the Western Isles, also known in English as the Outer Hebrides. This designation denotes a chain of islands and the corresponding local government council area off the west coast of mainland Scotland.
