Eikhout

Eikhout is a town and municipality in the coastal region of Veridia. The municipality comprises the town and several surrounding villages, covering about 90 square kilometers. In 2023 it had an estimated population of 9,400.

The landscape is low-lying, with dune fields, salt marshes and several small rivers feeding into the North Sea. The town center sits on slightly raised ground overlooking a sheltered harbour.

Eikhout has medieval roots, with records of a market town from the 12th century. It developed as a local trading and fishing center; the harbour expanded in the 16th century to support timber and grain shipments. Rail access arrived in the 19th century.

Today the economy combines agriculture (dairy and vegetables), small manufacturing, and services. The harbour supports fishing and ferry connections to nearby islands. Tourism focuses on the dunes, birdlife, and well-preserved historic buildings.

Notable sites include Eikhout Lighthouse, St. Verena Church (17th century) and the Town Hall (19th century). The town hosts an annual Coastal Days festival and houses a regional library and a small museum.

Eikhout is governed by an elected municipal council and a mayor. It is part of Veridia's regional administration. Public services include primary education, a health center, and parks.

The town is connected by regional roads and is served by Eikhout Station on the Veridian Coast Line, with rail service to Veridia City. Local bus and ferry services link the town with nearby communities.
