Egham

Egham is a town in the Runnymede borough of Surrey, England. It sits on the north bank of the River Thames, between Virginia Water and Chertsey, about 19 miles southwest of central London. The town is close to the M25 and near Windsor Great Park, placing it within the London commuter belt. Egham includes the riverside area of Egham Hythe, which reflects its historic role as a crossing point on the Thames.

Historically, Egham lies near the Runnymede landscape where the Magna Carta was sealed in 1215. Today the area around the river retains associations with this pivotal event, including memorials and historically significant sites along the Thames.

The town is best known for Royal Holloway, University of London, whose campus lies on the western edge of Egham. Founded in the 19th century by Thomas Holloway, the college became part of the University of London in 1900. The Founder's Building on campus is a distinctive landmark and a symbol of the university’s long-standing presence in the town.
