Eemaldav

Eemaldav is an Estonian adjective derived from the verb eemaldama (to remove) with the present active participle suffix -dav. In general use it functions as a modifier that identifies an actor or process that performs removal. In many contexts, however, the related form eemaldatav is more common when the intended meaning is “removable” in the sense of something that can be detached or taken away.

Etymology and forms: The root is eemalda- plus the participle suffix -dav, yielding eemaldav as the present active participle. The closely related form eemaldatav uses the passive participle suffix -atav and is the standard expression for removable properties. The distinction between these forms is primarily semantic and contextual rather than orthographic.

Usage: In technical terminology or product naming, eemaldav can appear to describe a function that removes something, e.g., a mechanism that removes. For describing objects that can be removed, writers usually prefer eemaldatav, as in eemaldatav osa (a removable part) or eemaldatav kate (a removable coating). In everyday language, eemaldav is less common for direct properties and may appear in older texts or specialized jargon. Both forms agree in gender and case with the nouns they modify.
