Edasiandja

Edasiandja is an Estonian term meaning transmitter or sender. It refers to a device or a person that transmits information or signals from a source to a destination. In technical contexts, edasiandja describes equipment that generates, modulates, amplifies, and radiates a signal, such as a radio, television, or data-transmission transmitter.

In broadcasting and radio engineering, an edasiandja typically consists of a signal source (oscillator), a modulator, a power amplifier, and an antenna. The transmitter raises the signal to a suitable power level and emits it as radio waves so it can be received by an edastuv vastuvõtja (receiver) or by a receiver network. Transmitters can be standalone units or integrated into larger systems, such as broadcasting towers, cellular base stations, or satellite uplinks. They operate on assigned frequencies and are subject to regulatory limits on power, bandwidth, and emissions.

In data communications, the term is used to denote the entity that sends data from the sender side of a link. This includes network devices such as transceivers, wireless access points, routers, and transmitting interfaces within computers. Many devices are capable of acting as both edasiandja and vastuvõtja (transceivers) depending on the communication mode.

Etymology-wise, edasiandja derives from edastama (to broadcast or transmit) with the agent suffix -ja. The concept is closely linked to related terms in telecommunications and broadcasting, and it is contrasted with the recipient role of the vastuvõtja.
