Easington

Easington is a coastal village and civil parish in County Durham, England. It lies on the North Sea coast in the eastern part of the county and encompasses the historic village of Easington and the surrounding rural area, including the district known as Easington Colliery. The area is part of the Durham County Council administrative region.

Historically, Easington was tied to coal mining as part of the East Durham coalfield. Easington Colliery developed as a community around the mine, expanding in the 19th and 20th centuries. After coal mining declined in the late 20th century, the local economy diversified, with residents commuting to nearby towns and taking up service-sector employment.

Today, Easington remains a small rural parish with a mix of agricultural land and housing. The built environment includes farmsteads, former colliery housing, and some older village housing.
