Eagan

Eagan is a city in Dakota County, Minnesota, United States. It is a southern suburb of the Twin Cities, located about 12 miles southeast of downtown Saint Paul and about 17 miles south of downtown Minneapolis. It is part of the Minneapolis–Saint Paul metropolitan area. As of the 2020 census, Eagan had a population of approximately 68,000 residents. The city borders several other communities and is near major commercial corridors and attractions such as the Mall of America.

Founded in the 19th century as a rural community, Eagan developed rapidly after World War II as part of the suburban expansion of the Twin Cities.

Geographically, Eagan covers a mix of residential neighborhoods, business parks, and parklands. The Lebanon Hills Regional Park, one of the region's larger regional parks, is located within the city and provides hiking and recreational facilities. The city also contains several community centers and the Eagan Community Library.

Education and transportation: Eagan is served by Independent School District 196, which includes Eagan High School. The city is connected to the regional transportation network by Interstate 35E and Interstate 494, with additional arterial streets and bus service provided by Metro Transit. The city’s location near major highways and its proximity to the Mall of America and other Twin Cities attractions influence its commercial and residential development.
