EUROFORs

EUROFORs, or European Force, was a multinational rapid deployment force established in 1995 by France, Italy, Portugal, and Spain. The initiative aimed to create a flexible military capability that could be deployed rapidly in response to crises within Europe or its immediate vicinity. It was envisioned as a tool for humanitarian assistance, peacekeeping operations, and crisis management.

The force structure was designed to be modular, allowing for the assembly of different components based on the mission requirements. This could include land, air, and naval assets, as well as specialized units. The participating nations contributed troops and equipment on a rotational basis. EUROFORs was intended to operate under the political control of the European Union or, in specific circumstances, under NATO or United Nations mandates.

While EUROFORs was never deployed in a major operational capacity, its existence represented an important step in the development of European defense cooperation and rapid response capabilities. The concept of a multinational, deployable force aimed to enhance the ability of European nations to act collectively in security matters. The initiative concluded in 2022, with its functions being absorbed into broader European defense cooperation frameworks.
