ESX5

ESX5, also known as VMware ESXi 5.0, is a type of bare-metal hypervisor developed by VMware. It is the foundational component of VMware's vSphere suite, designed for deploying and managing virtual machines. ESX5 installs directly onto a server's hardware, allowing multiple operating systems and applications to run on a single physical server in isolation. This direct hardware access contributes to its efficiency and performance.

Key features of ESX5 include its robust resource management capabilities, enabling efficient allocation and utilization of CPU, memory, storage, and network resources among virtual machines. It supports advanced networking features such as virtual switches and VLANs for flexible network configuration. The architecture of ESX5 consists of the VMkernel, which is the core operating system, and a service console (though in later versions, this was significantly reduced or removed in favor of a command-line interface or vCenter management).
