ESMO

European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) is a non-profit professional association of medical oncologists and other oncology professionals in Europe. Its mission is to advance the science of medical oncology and to improve cancer care for patients by promoting education, research, and evidence-based practice. ESMO pursues this through the creation of evidence-based clinical guidelines, education and training programs, and the dissemination of high-quality oncology information.

A central activity is the development and publication of clinical practice guidelines for the diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of various cancers, which are regularly updated to reflect new evidence. The society also publishes ESMO Open, an open-access oncology journal, and maintains resources such as guideline summaries and patient information materials. The ESMO Academy delivers educational activities, online courses, fellowships, and resources for clinicians and trainees.

The annual ESMO Congress brings together thousands of attendees to present research, discuss standards of care, and learn about new therapies and guidelines. In addition, ESMO has contributed tools such as the ESMO Magnitude of Clinical Benefit Scale (ESMO-MCBS), a standardized framework for assessing the benefit of cancer therapies that informs clinical and policy decisions.

Membership spans medical oncologists, nurse specialists, researchers, and other oncology professionals. ESMO works with national societies and international partners to promote consistent, evidence-based cancer care across Europe and to address disparities in access to treatment and outcomes.
