ESCPOSStandard

ESCPOSStandard is a widely adopted communication protocol used primarily for controlling receipt and label printers. Developed by Epson, it allows applications to send commands to these printers to format and print text, graphics, barcodes, and other elements. The protocol is designed to be simple and efficient, enabling quick transmission of print data.

The ESCPOSStandard protocol utilizes a series of escape sequences, hence the "ESC" in its name, followed by specific command codes. These commands dictate various printing functions such as setting font styles, line spacing, justification, cutting paper, and opening the cash drawer. Printers that support ESCPOSStandard interpret these commands to render the desired output.

Due to its widespread support among printer manufacturers and its open nature, ESCPOSStandard has become a de facto standard in many point-of-sale (POS) systems, hospitality environments, and retail applications. This interoperability allows developers to create software that can communicate with a broad range of compatible printers without needing to implement unique drivers for each model.
