ENEL15

The EN-EL15 is a rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack manufactured by Nikon. It is designed to power various Nikon digital SLR cameras, including many models in the D7xxx and D8xx series, as well as some mirrorless cameras like the Z6 and Z7. The EN-EL15 typically has a capacity of around 1900 mAh and a voltage of 7.0 V, providing a significant number of shots on a single charge.

These batteries utilize lithium-ion technology, which offers a good balance of energy density and longevity. Unlike older battery chemistries, lithium-ion batteries do not suffer from the "memory effect," meaning they can be recharged without significantly degrading their capacity. The EN-EL15 is equipped with internal circuitry to protect against overcharging, over-discharging, and short circuits, enhancing both safety and battery life.

Nikon often includes the EN-EL15 as the standard battery with many of its camera bodies. While it is possible to use third-party compatible batteries, official Nikon EN-EL15 batteries are generally recommended for optimal performance and reliability, as they are designed to meet the specific power requirements of Nikon cameras. The battery is charged using a dedicated Nikon battery charger, such as the MH-25 or MH-25a. When a battery is low, the camera's display will typically indicate the remaining charge.
