EMV Technologie refers to the specifications and standards developed by EMVCo for processing chip-based payment transactions. EMV stands for Europay, Mastercard, and Visa, the three companies that initially created the standard. The primary goal of EMV Technologie is to enhance the security of payment cards and reduce counterfeit card fraud. Unlike traditional magnetic stripe cards, which store data in a static format, EMV chip cards contain a microprocessor that generates a unique transaction code for each purchase. This dynamic data makes it significantly harder for fraudsters to clone card information.
