EMCEMINormen

EMCEMINormen is not an official designation, but a blended term that appears to combine EMC (electromagnetic compatibility) with normen, the Dutch/German word for standards. In practice, it would refer to the set of EMC-related European Norms (EN) published within the European standardization framework, used to assess and assure equipment compliance with European requirements.

Overview and purpose

The EMC standards under the EN framework define emission limits and immunity testing to ensure that electrical and electronic devices operate safely and reliably in their electromagnetic environment. These standards support conformity assessment for CE marking under the EU EMC Directive, now represented by the directive 2014/30/EU, with harmonised EN standards providing a presumption of conformity.

Key components

The EN EMC family spans emission and immunity tests as well as general requirements. Examples include emission-focused standards like EN 55022 or EN 55032, immunity standards such as EN 61000-4-2 through EN 61000-4-6, and general framework standards in EN 61000-1. Other EN standards address specific product categories and test methods, and harmonised standards are periodically revised to reflect evolving technology and usage.

Administration and use

These standards are developed by CENELEC (the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization) and adopted by member states. Manufacturers, testing laboratories, and regulatory authorities rely on EN EMC standards to demonstrate compliance for market access within the EU. When referring to these requirements, it is clearer to use “EN EMC standards” or specify the exact standard number rather than the blended term EMCEMINormen.
