EGRklapis

EGRklapis is a term that refers to the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve. The EGR valve is a component of an internal combustion engine's emission control system. Its primary function is to recirculate a small portion of the exhaust gas back into the engine's intake manifold. This mixture of exhaust gas and fresh air is then sent to the cylinders.

The purpose of introducing exhaust gas into the combustion process is to reduce the formation of nitrogen oxides (NOx). Nitrogen oxides are harmful pollutants produced at high combustion temperatures. By diluting the incoming air with inert exhaust gas, the peak combustion temperature is lowered. This reduction in temperature significantly decreases the production of NOx.

The EGR valve can be either vacuum-operated or electronically controlled. Vacuum-operated EGR valves use engine vacuum to open and close, regulating the amount of exhaust gas recirculated. Electronically controlled EGR valves use a solenoid or electric motor, allowing for more precise control by the engine's control unit (ECU) based on various engine operating conditions such as engine speed, load, and temperature.

When the EGR system is functioning correctly, it helps vehicles meet emissions standards. However, over time, the EGR valve can become clogged with carbon deposits, leading to performance issues. These issues can include rough idling, poor acceleration, stalling, and increased fuel consumption. In some cases, a malfunctioning EGR valve can trigger the check engine light. Cleaning or replacing the EGR valve is often necessary to resolve these problems.
