Dybhavsfisk

Dybhavsfisk, a Danish term, translates to "deep-sea fish" in English. This classification encompasses a wide array of fish species that inhabit the abyssal and hadal zones of the ocean, typically below 1,000 meters (3,300 feet). These environments are characterized by extreme conditions, including immense pressure, complete darkness, near-freezing temperatures, and a scarcity of food.

Deep-sea fish have evolved remarkable adaptations to survive and thrive in such challenging habitats. Many species possess bioluminescent organs, which they use for attracting prey, communication, or defense. Their bodies are often gelatinous and lack swim bladders, as these would collapse under the immense pressure. Eyes can be highly developed to detect faint light or entirely absent, relying instead on other sensory organs like the lateral line to perceive vibrations and pressure changes.
