Dutelas

Dutelas are a class of ceremonial pendants and protective talismans used by the communities of the Veridian Isles, a fictional archipelago described in ethnographic and literary works. The term appears in multiple sources to denote this artifact, though design and symbolism vary by locality.

Most dutelas are carved from driftwood, bone, or shell, and are shaped as teardrops, disks, or irregular ovals. Surfaces are often smoothed and inlaid with shell, mother-of-pearl, or stones. Engravings depict ocean motifs such as waves, stars, turtles, or ancestral animals.
