Dupuytren disease, also known as Dupuytren contracture, is a progressive condition that affects the fascia, a layer of connective tissue beneath the skin of the palm and fingers. It is characterized by the formation of lumps and cords under the skin of the palm, which can eventually lead to a permanent bending or "contracture" of the fingers towards the palm. This contracture makes it difficult to fully extend the fingers, impacting grip strength and fine motor skills.
