Dumeril
Dumeril is a surname of French origin. The most prominent figure associated with the name is André Marie Constant Duméril (1774–1860), a French zoologist and leading figure in early 19th-century herpetology. He served as a professor at the Muséum national d'histoire naturelle in Paris and contributed to the taxonomy and classification of reptiles, amphibians, and fishes, as well as to comparative anatomy. He is best known for co-authoring Erpétologie générale, with Gabriel Bibron, a sweeping multi-volume work published from 1834 to 1849 that systematized many reptile descriptions and influenced subsequent zoology.
The name also appears in the scientific epithets of species named in his honor, such as Varanus
