In agriculture and ecology, droughtadaptive traits help plants, crops, and ecosystems endure, recover from water stress, or continue productive growth during dry periods. The concept covers physiological, morphological, phenological, genetic, and management-based strategies that improve water-use efficiency and resilience to arid conditions.

Key mechanisms include enhanced water-use efficiency, deep or prolific root systems, reduced leaf area or leaf shedding, stomatal regulation, osmotic adjustment, and metabolic adaptations such as CAM or C4 photosynthesis in certain species. Droughtadaptive crops may exhibit stay-green traits, rapid root growth after rainfall, or efficient use of stored soil moisture.
