Doumen

Doumen is a district of Zhuhai, a prefecture-level city in Guangdong Province, China. It lies in the western part of Zhuhai, on the western bank of the Pearl River estuary, facing Macao across the water. The district features a coastal landscape with beaches, river mouths, and a mix of rural and industrial areas, and it experiences a subtropical monsoon climate with hot summers and mild winters.

Historically, the area was known as Doumen County before being incorporated into Zhuhai as a district. Today Doumen administers a number of towns and rural communities within the prefecture-level city.

The economy of Doumen is diversified. Manufacturing and logistics are important components, with light industry and exporter-oriented activities supported by industrial parks. Cross-border trade with Macao plays a significant role in local growth. Agriculture remains present in rural areas, including seafood farming and crops suited to the subtropical climate.

The district is served by major roads and expressways that connect Zhuhai with neighboring cities, and port facilities facilitate trade with Macao and other parts of the delta. Culturally, Doumen reflects Guangdong’s Cantonese heritage, with local cuisine and maritime traditions common in coastal districts. The population is predominantly Han Chinese, with regional dialects such as Cantonese widely spoken.
