Doublestroked

Doublestroked is a term used in typography and graphic design to describe lettering or typefaces that are executed with a pair of parallel strokes that outline or strengthen the main letterform. The effect produces a bold, dimensional look and is often chosen for display typography, signage, and branding where high contrast is desirable. Doublestroked lettering may be produced by rendering each character with an inner stroke and an outer stroke, or by applying a secondary stroke offset from the primary path to create a double-line silhouette.

Origin and usage: The concept is related to other double-stroke techniques in design, such as outlines and strokes that create a sense of depth. While "doublestroked" is not a formal term in major typography handbooks, it appears in designer portfolios, tutorials, and discussions as a descriptive label for this aesthetic. It is more common in informal contexts than in standardized type classifications and is often customized per project.

Technique and variation: In vector-based workflows, designers adjust stroke width, alignment, and join style to achieve clean double strokes. Options include a narrow inner stroke with a thicker outer stroke, equal-width strokes on both sides, or a contrasting color treatment where the fill and the two strokes use different hues. The resultant appearance can range from subtle to highly graphic.
