Dotonbori

Dotonbori is a district in Osaka, Japan, known for entertainment, shopping, and food along the Dotonbori canal. It lies in Naniwa Ward, between Shinsaibashi and Nipponbashi, and forms part of the city’s south-central entertainment area.

The canal was constructed in the early 17th century to support commerce, and the surrounding area developed as a bustling commercial hub with theaters, shops, and eateries. In the modern era, Dotonbori is renowned for its bright neon signage and large billboards that illuminate the waterfront at night.

Iconic features include signs such as the Glico Running Man and the Kani Doraku crab sign, which have become symbols of the district. The Ebisu Bridge over the canal is a popular crossing and meeting point. The area is especially known for street food, including takoyaki and okonomiyaki, with numerous restaurants and stalls lining the canal.
