Dokumentinsyöttölaitteet

Dokumentinsyöttölaitteet, often translated as document feeders or automatic document feeders (ADF), are devices designed to automatically feed multiple pages of paper into a scanner or copier. These devices significantly streamline the process of digitizing or copying multi-page documents. Instead of manually placing each page onto the scanner glass, a user can stack a whole document into the ADF, and the device will then pull each page through at a set interval for processing.

ADFs are common components of modern multifunction printers and standalone scanners. They typically have a tray where the documents are placed face up or face down, and a mechanism that grips and advances the paper one sheet at a time. The speed and capacity of an ADF can vary greatly depending on the model and its intended use, with some capable of handling only a few pages while others can manage hundreds.

There are two main types of ADFs: simplex and duplex. Simplex ADFs scan only one side of each page. Duplex ADFs, on the other hand, are capable of scanning both sides of a document in a single pass, either by using two scanning elements or by flipping the page internally. This feature is particularly useful for efficiently digitizing double-sided documents. Many ADFs also include features like paper size detection and rejection of misfed pages to ensure accurate scanning.
