Dobbeltparameter

Dobbeltparameter is a non-technical term used in Danish and Norwegian to describe a model, equation, or system that is governed by two parameters. The word is a compound of dobbelt (double) and parameter and is typically used informally rather than as a formal mathematical designation.

In mathematics and statistics, a dobbeltparameter commonly refers to a two-parameter family of functions or distributions. Examples include a simple linear function f(x) = a x + b, which depends on two parameters: the slope a and the intercept b. Another widely used instance is the two-parameter Weibull distribution, which has a shape parameter k and a scale parameter λ. More generally, many parametric models in science and engineering are specified by two defining constants.

In modelling, a dobbeltparameter model describes a phenomenon with two degrees of freedom or two characteristic scales, captured by two adjustable parameters. In programming, the term can also describe a function or method that accepts two input values (arity 2), as opposed to a single-parameter variant.

Limitations: dobbeltparameter is not a formal term across all disciplines, and its precise meaning depends on context. It may refer to the functional form, a particular distribution, or a model with two tunable quantities; clarity comes from naming the specific parameters or model family involved.
