Distorsioa

Distorsioa refers to the alteration of a thing from its original state, producing a representation that differs from reality. The term is used across disciplines to describe both physical changes in signals and images, and more abstract deviations in perception, interpretation, or data.

In imaging and optics, distorsioa denotes deviations of the captured image from the real scene. Lenses and sensor geometry can warp lines, shapes, or alignment. Geometric distortion affects position and scale (barrel, pincushion), while chromatic distortion involves color separation.

In signal processing and communications, distorsioa is any alteration of a signal's waveform or spectral content caused by nonlinearities, filtering, quantization, or transmission noise. It degrades fidelity and can be mitigated by calibration, linearization, filtering, or error-correcting coding. Clipping and harmonic distortion are common examples.

In cognitive science and social discourse, distorsioa can describe how information is interpreted or presented in ways that bias or mislead. This includes perceptual biases, misinformation, and translation or reporting errors that reshape meaning.

Measurement and mitigation rely on comparing a distorted result to a reference, using metrics such as error, peak signal-to-noise ratio, or perceptual quality indices. Mitigation strategies include higher-quality components, calibration, proper encoding, shielding, and robust data processing methods.
