Direkteindsprøjtning

Direkteindsprøjtning, often referred to as direct injection, is a fuel delivery system used in internal combustion engines. In this system, fuel is injected directly into the combustion chamber rather than into the intake manifold or port. This direct delivery allows for more precise control over the amount and timing of fuel entering the cylinder.

The primary advantage of direkteindsprøjtning is improved fuel efficiency and reduced emissions. By injecting fuel directly into the combustion chamber, it can be sprayed in a finely atomized mist, leading to better mixing with the air and more complete combustion. This precise control also enables the engine to operate with leaner fuel-air mixtures, further enhancing efficiency. Furthermore, the cooling effect of evaporating fuel directly in the combustion chamber can help suppress knocking, allowing for higher compression ratios and improved performance.

However, direkteindsprøjtning systems can be more complex and expensive to manufacture compared to traditional port injection systems. They often require higher fuel pressures and specialized injectors. Over time, carbon deposits can build up on intake valves due to the lack of fuel washing them, which can necessitate periodic cleaning. Despite these challenges, the benefits in terms of fuel economy and emissions have made direkteindsprøjtning a dominant technology in modern gasoline and diesel engines.
