Direktdebiteringar, also known as direct debits, are a payment method in which a creditor initiates the transfer of funds directly from a debtor’s bank account. The arrangement is commonly used for recurring payments such as utilities, subscription services, mortgage installments, and insurance premiums. In Sweden, the system is governed by the Swedish Payments Association (Svenska Betalningsmyndigheten) and follows the regulations set out in the Payments Act (Betalningslagen) and the European Payment Services Directive (PSD2).
