Dipolövergång

Dipolövergång is a term used in the context of Political Science, particularly in Scandinavian countries Sweden and Norway. Literally translating to "caretaker government" in English, Dipolövergång refers to a temporary period of governance between two elected governments.

Following the dissolution of a parliamentary government, when no election has yet taken place or no clear winner has emerged, members of the outgoing cabinet are assigned as acting governors or interim prime ministers. These caretaker governments take on the responsibility of making crucial policy decisions and overseeing the daily affairs of the country until a new government can be formed.

The establishment of a Dipolövergång is often considered a transitional phase, governed by the rules laid out in the constitution. These rules dictate the type of functions and responsibilities that fall under the jurisdiction of the caretaker government. A Dipolövergång typically involves carefully selected officials, who refrain from making significant and contentious decisions, avoiding actions that may have long-term implications.
