Dimetyylisulfonia

Dimetyylisulfonia, also known as dimethyl sulfone or methylsulfonylmethane (MSM), is an organosulfur compound with the chemical formula (CH3)2SO2. It is a colorless, odorless solid that is naturally present in some plants and foods, and is also produced by the human body. MSM is a metabolite of dimethyl sulfide (DMS) and is found in trace amounts in the Earth's atmosphere and oceans.

Industrially, dimethyl sulfone is often produced by the oxidation of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). It is soluble in water and ethanol. Due to its perceived health benefits, MSM is widely used as a dietary supplement. It is commonly taken to alleviate joint pain, reduce inflammation, and improve skin health, although scientific evidence supporting these claims varies. MSM is also used in some cosmetic products. In its pure form, it is considered safe for consumption and topical application.
