Diggings
Diggings is a term used in mining to describe excavations in earth from which minerals are extracted, as well as the sites and camps associated with such activity. In common usage, diggings can refer to both surface deposits exposed by removing overburden (placer or alluvial diggings) and underground excavations such as shafts, tunnels, and adits that follow ore bodies (hard rock diggings).
