Dianguang

Dianguang refers to the phenomenon of bioluminescence, the production and emission of light by living organisms. This biological light is generated through a chemical reaction involving a light-emitting molecule called a luciferin and an enzyme called a luciferase, often in the presence of oxygen. The color of the emitted light can vary depending on the specific luciferin and luciferase involved, ranging from blue and green to yellow and red.

Bioluminescence occurs across a wide range of organisms, including bacteria, fungi, insects, marine invertebrates, and fish. In the ocean, it is particularly widespread, with an estimated 90% of deep-sea organisms exhibiting this trait. Many terrestrial insects, such as fireflies, use bioluminescence for communication, primarily for mating purposes. Fungi can also be bioluminescent, with some species glowing continuously.

The functions of bioluminescence are diverse. Beyond mating displays, it can be used for attracting prey, deterring predators, camouflage, and even as a means of illumination. In some cases, it may also play a role in microbial signaling or symbiosis. The study of bioluminescence has applications in various fields, including biotechnology, medicine, and environmental monitoring, where bioluminescent organisms or their components are used as indicators or reporters.
