Diameterstructuur

Diameterstructuur is a Dutch term that does not have a single, universally accepted definition in technical literature. The word combines diameter and structuur (structure) and is used informally in various disciplines to refer to how diameters are arranged or distributed within an object, cross-section, or population.

In forestry and ecology, the term often corresponds to diameter structure or diameter distribution of a stand: the frequency distribution of tree diameters. It is typically represented as a histogram of diameter classes and used to assess stand dynamics, age mix, competition, and management options. Common descriptors include class width, mean diameter, and diversity measures such as the Gini coefficient of diameters.

In materials science and textile engineering, diameter structure may refer to the distribution of filament, fiber, or pore diameters within a sample. This affects mechanical properties such as strength and stiffness, as well as transport properties in porous media. Characterization methods include microscopy, laser diffraction, and image analysis.

In geometry or computer graphics, diameterstructuur can be used informally to describe the arrangement of diameters in a circular object or the set of lines that pass through the center. Formal terminology in this area typically uses diameter distribution or cross-sectional geometry.
