Deucalion

Deucalion is a figure from Greek mythology, son of Prometheus and Clymene. He is best known for surviving a great flood that destroyed humanity, along with his wife Pyrrha. This flood was sent by Zeus to punish the wickedness of mankind. Deucalion, warned by his father Prometheus, built an ark to escape the deluge.

After the flood subsided, the ark landed on Mount Parnassus. Deucalion and Pyrrha were the only two humans left alive. They prayed to Zeus for guidance on how to repopulate the Earth. The god instructed them to throw stones over their shoulders. The stones thrown by Deucalion turned into men, and the stones thrown by Pyrrha turned into women. Thus, they became the ancestors of a new race of humans.

Deucalion is often depicted as a just and pious king. His story is a significant myth that explains the re-creation of humanity after a divine cataclysm and emphasizes themes of piety, survival, and the will of the gods. He is sometimes referred to as the "father of mankind" due to his role in repopulating the Earth.
