Determinatekasvussa, often translated as determinate growth, is a biological term describing a type of growth in organisms where the development of a particular structure or the organism as a whole reaches a genetically predetermined size or form and then ceases. This is in contrast to indeterminate growth, where growth continues throughout an organism's life.

In plants, determinate growth is commonly observed in flowers and fruits. Once a flower bud has formed and begun to develop, it will typically reach its final size and structure and then either bloom or abort. Similarly, fruits develop from flowers and grow to a specific size before ripening and eventually senescing. In some plant species, entire branches or even the main stem may exhibit determinate growth, meaning they stop elongating after reaching a certain length. This can influence the overall architecture and size of the plant.

Animals also exhibit determinate growth. Most vertebrates, including humans, show determinate growth. After reaching sexual maturity and a specific adult size, growth largely stops, although some tissues may continue to repair or regenerate. This biological limitation ensures a stable adult form, which is crucial for reproduction and survival in many species. The cessation of growth is often regulated by hormones and genetic programming.
