Detectableidentifiable is a term used in information science and privacy studies to describe items, signals, or data that are both detectable by a sensing or observation process and identifiable to a particular source or entity within a defined context.

Detectable refers to the ability to observe the presence of an item or signal using appropriate instrumentation or methods. Identifiable means that, once observed, the item can be uniquely attributed to a source, device, person, or object rather than merely recognized as something of a certain category. When a data item or signal is both detectable and identifiable, it may be described as detectableidentifiable.

In practice, the concept appears in fields such as sensor networks, biometric systems, asset tracking, and data privacy. In surveillance and analytics, detectableidentifiable signals enable tracking of individuals or assets across time and space. In privacy discussions, the term emphasizes the risk that data can reveal not only that something exists but also who it belongs to, potentially enabling re-identification when combined with auxiliary information.

Assessment typically considers two dimensions: detectability (the probability of observing the signal above a threshold) and identifiability (the ability to assign a unique identity given context). Trade-offs between utility and privacy, measurement error, and adversarial capabilities influence these assessments. Mitigation, when desired, includes data minimization, anonymization, pseudonymization, and privacy-preserving techniques such as differential privacy.
