Desitin

Desitin is a brand of over-the-counter topical products used to treat and prevent diaper rash in infants and young children. The products are typically zinc oxide–based ointments or creams that form a protective barrier on the skin, helping to seal out moisture and reduce irritation. The Desitin line has included various formulations, most notably an Original Paste and a Maximum Strength version, along with other creams and ointments that share a zinc oxide core. In addition to zinc oxide, formulations may contain emollients such as petrolatum or mineral oil to soothe the skin.

Uses and administration: Desitin products are applied to the clean, dry diaper area at each diaper change, with a thin layer covering the irritated skin. They are intended for external use only. Users should follow the directions on the product label and avoid contact with eyes or mucous membranes. If the rash persists for several days, worsens, or is accompanied by fever, drainage, or signs of infection, a healthcare professional should be consulted. In case of accidental ingestion, seek medical advice.

Safety and considerations: Desitin products are generally used for minor, routine diaper rash and similar mild skin irritations.
