Descentende

Descentende is a fictional nation-state created for worldbuilding and speculative fiction. It is portrayed as a coastal republic on the western shore of the continent of Eldoria, bordered by the independent enclave of Karyth to the north and by the sea to the west. The name Descentende stems from the Descentendi language, where it denotes the people and their homeland.

Its varied landscape ranges from steep sea cliffs and fjord-like inlets to rolling agricultural plains. The population, around 6.2 million, is concentrated in the urban core near the capital, Liria, and in port cities along the coast. The Descentendi are the majority ethnic group.

Descentende operates as a parliamentary republic. The President serves as head of state, while a Prime Minister leads the government. The unicameral National Assembly has about 120 members elected for four-year terms, and the judiciary is constitutionally independent.

Historically a loose federation of maritime towns, Descentende gained formal independence after a 16-year war with the regional empire, formalizing its constitution in 1982. Since the 1990s it has pursued market-oriented reforms, increasing trade integration with neighboring states.

Its economy blends fishing, shipbuilding, agriculture, and light manufacturing, with growing services and tourism. The Descentendi language is official alongside regional tongues, and maritime heritage shapes literature, music, cuisine, and festivals, including annual harbor markets and coastal regattas.

Major sites include the Cliffside Market of Port Nyra, the granite Hill of Echoes, and the glass-walled Parliament Quarter in Liria. Descentende features a temperate maritime climate and rugged coastal scenery.
