Derivoitujen

Derivoitujen is a Finnish linguistic term referring to words or forms that have undergone derivation. The base adjective derivoitu, meaning derived, is formed from the verb derivoida, and derivoitujen is its plural genitive or partitive plural form used when describing a group of derived items. In linguistic analysis, derivoitujen forms are contrasted with root or unaltered forms to show how new words or parts of speech have been created through derivational processes such as affixation or conversion.

In practical usage, the concept is employed in morphology, lexicography, and language description to categorize vocabulary into categories created by derivation rather than by inflection or borrowing. Derivation can produce new nouns, adjectives, or verbs from a single root, often changing the word’s part of speech or meaning. For example, from a root like kirjoitt- (to write), derivational steps can yield words such as kirjoittaja (writer) or kirjoittaminen (the act of writing); from a noun like sähkö (electricity), one may form adjectives like sähköinen (electrical). Such derived forms are the kinds of items that may be described as derivoidut or derivoitujen in corpus notes or grammars.

Note that derivoitu and derivoitujen also appear in mathematical language, where derivoida means to differentiate and derivoitu refers to differentiated forms or functions. In that context, however, terminology more commonly centers on derivatives and differentiation rather than on lexical derivation.
