Derivaattoille, also known as derivatives, are financial contracts that derive their value from an underlying asset, index, or interest rate. These contracts are used to manage risk, speculate on price movements, or hedge against price fluctuations. Derivatives can be categorized into several types, including futures, options, swaps, and forwards.

Futures contracts are agreements to buy or sell an asset at a predetermined price and date in the future. They are commonly used in commodities, currencies, and financial instruments. Options, on the other hand, give the holder the right, but not the obligation, to buy or sell an asset at a specified price before a certain date. Options can be further classified as call options (right to buy) or put options (right to sell).

Swaps involve the exchange of cash flows between two parties. They can be used to manage interest rate risk, currency risk, or to gain exposure to different asset classes. Forwards are similar to futures but are customized agreements between two parties, often over-the-counter (OTC), rather than traded on an exchange.

Derivatives play a crucial role in the global financial markets, providing liquidity, facilitating risk management, and enabling speculation. However, they also come with significant risks, including the potential for substantial losses. Regulatory frameworks and risk management practices are essential to mitigate these risks and ensure the stability of financial markets.
