Derealisatsioon

Derealisatsioon is a dissociative symptom characterized by a feeling of unreality or detachment from one's surroundings. The external world may appear distorted, foggy, dreamlike, or as if it is not real. Individuals experiencing derealisatsioon might feel like they are observing events from behind a glass or as if their environment is artificial or staged. This feeling can affect all senses, making colors seem dull or too bright, sounds muffled, and the sense of time altered.

The experience is subjective and often distressing for the individual, though they typically retain insight that their perception is altered and not a reflection of objective reality. It is important to distinguish derealisatsioon from psychosis, as individuals experiencing derealisatsioon are generally aware that their perceptions are not real.

Derealisatsioon can occur as a symptom of various conditions, including anxiety disorders, panic attacks, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), migraines, and epilepsy. It can also be triggered by stress, fatigue, drug use, or certain medications. While derealisatsioon can be a frightening experience, it is often transient and may resolve on its own. Treatment typically focuses on addressing the underlying cause.
