Deposiiidiga

Deposiiidiga is a term that originated from the Inupiat language, spoken by the Inupiat people in the Arctic regions of Alaska, Canada, and Russia. The term is often associated with traditional Inupiat whaling practices.

In the Inupiat language, "deposiiidiga" roughly translates to "one who digs or pulls out things" or "one who extracts whales from the sea". In the context of whaling, a deposiiidiga was a highly skilled whaler who specialized in hunting whales using traditional methods. These skilled hunters would often lead expeditions of whalers to hunt and extract whales from the Arctic waters, where they would use their knowledge of the sea and the behaviour of whales to locate and catch their prey.
