Demonsteren

Demonsteren is a term that is not the standard infinitive in contemporary Dutch for the act of showing or protesting. The correct verb is demonstreren, with present forms such as ik demonstreer and jij demonstreert, and the plural demonstreren. The noun corresponding to the act is demonstratie. In formal writing, the spelling demonsteren is generally regarded as a nonstandard variant or a misspelling of demonstreren.

The word can be confused with demonteren, a different verb meaning to disassemble or dismantle, as in the disassembly of machinery. In that sense, the related noun is demontering. Although the two words look and sound similar, they have distinct meanings and are not interchangeable.
