Demodulointiin

Demodulointiin, known in English as demodulation, is the process of extracting information from a modulated carrier wave. In telecommunications and signal processing, information is often transmitted by modifying a carrier signal according to a process called modulation. Demodulation is the inverse of this process, where the original information signal is recovered from the modulated wave.

There are various types of modulation, and correspondingly, different methods of demodulation. For amplitude modulation (AM), a simple envelope detector can be used to recover the original signal by following the amplitude variations of the carrier. Frequency modulation (FM) requires more complex demodulators, such as a frequency discriminator or a phase-locked loop (PLL), to extract the frequency variations that represent the information. Phase modulation (PM) also necessitates specific demodulation techniques to recover the phase shifts.

Demodulation is a fundamental step in receiving radio broadcasts, cellular communications, Wi-Fi signals, and many other wireless and wired transmission systems. Without effective demodulation, the transmitted information would be unintelligible. The quality of the demodulated signal depends on the accuracy of the demodulator and the presence of noise or interference during transmission. Different applications may require different levels of demodulator precision and complexity.
