Demodularization

Demodularization is a conceptual term often used in discussions about artificial intelligence and machine learning, particularly in the context of large language models. It refers to the hypothetical process of extracting or isolating specific, specialized knowledge or capabilities that have become embedded within a larger, more general model. Imagine a vast, complex neural network trained on an enormous dataset. Demodularization suggests that within this network, certain subnetworks or configurations might have effectively "learned" to perform a particular task or understand a specific domain, akin to a specialized module within a larger system.

The goal of demodularization would be to identify and "unplug" these learned modules. This could potentially allow for the reuse of these specialized capabilities in other models or applications without needing to retrain a new model from scratch.
